Copeland Spode's Tower England Chinoiserie China meets Persia Persian Rug Chandelier Earrings, Blue Dish Porcelain Bohemain Asian Eclectic

$50.00

These gorgeous eclectic earrings are replicas of Copeland Spode's Tower motif on one side and Persian Rugs on the other.

Tower pattern was introduced c1814 and was derived from a printed illustration (left) in the book by Merigot 'Views of Rome and its Vicinity' published c1796-1798.

Tower depicts the Bridge of Salaro, near Rome. The bridge which originally had a keep built on top of it survives although it is now underneath the main route leading out of Rome to the airport.

Tower,c1820

Tower pattern was printed in a variety of colours during its almost 200 year production history but particularly in blue and later in pink. The original pattern was transfer printed in 'medium Ultramarine blue' which is quite pale. In about 1860 it was produced in a darker, 'flowing' blue known as Royal Saxon blue or flow blue. In about 1894 the pattern was printed on Gadroon shape, based on designs of Georgian silver, in dark Royal blue (also known as Zaffres blue) which became very popular and was still in production in 2001.
The earrings are 3 1/4" long and lightweight. They will come in a gift box.

All my tiles are replicas made of polymer clay where the image actually becomes part of the clay through baking. No glue is used in the process. The pieces become waterproof and scratch resistant. Due to the handmade and hand shaped nature of each tile, slight variations will occur, as no two pieces are alike.

According to Wikipedia: Ming dynasty[edit]
Sino-Portuguese relations developed from the first Portuguese explorer, Jorge Álvares arrived in southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in 1513.[4] Around this time Portugal established trading activities in southern China and gradually expanded into Macau and paid rent to the Ming Empire.[4]

The first official visit of Fernão Pires de Andrade to Guangzhou (1517–1518) was fairly successful, and the local Chinese authorities allowed the embassy led by Tomé Pires, brought by de Andrade's flotilla, to proceed to Beijing.[5]
