Portugal Antique Delft Tile Metal Purse Clutch from 1706 SHIPWRECK Bounty Casa do Paço Figueira da Foz (read story) Manganese OOAK

The Casa do Paço in Figueira da Foz was built betwwn 1690 and 1704 as the summer residence of the Bishop-Count of Coimbra, D. Joao de Melo.

In 1706, a Dutch ship shipwrecked off the coast of Figueira da Foz.. It is told that the Count obtained the collection of Delft Tiles. The Casa do Paço has approximately 7,000 Delft Tiles covering it's walls. There are approximately 12,000 of these tiles in homes throughout Portugal and all have a connection to Casa do Paço!

In one of the rooms, one can find the largest and rarest set of Manganese painted tiles, representing Knights (princes, warriors, Arabs and Amazons in combat, brandishing their weapons and flags, or already wounded and fallen from horses.

One of the most interesting points about the Knights is that some of them have initials on their horses, which is completely unheard of. Historians have come to the conclusion that the initials stand for the figure on the horse
There are also Female Knights!

There are thousands and thousands of blue and white Scenes of everyday life in the Netherlands. Lovely!

There is also an entire room of Biblical Tiles, 66 different events in Scripture! These tiles represent 2 Different Biblical events. From Luke 5:1-11, the Miraculous Catch of Fish. The other tile portrays Zacchaeus in the Sycamore tree from Luke 19:1-10.

This one of a kind metal purse has a rhinestone clasp and a chain. It measures 6" x 4" and the individually placed tiles cover the front of the metal purse. Wear a Piece of History!

All my tiles are replicas made of polymer clay where the image actually becomes part of the clay through baking. No glue is used in the process. The pieces become waterproof and scratch resistant. Due to the handmade and hand shaped nature of each tile, slight variations will occur, as no two pieces are alike.
